Semi-Public Displays for Co-Located Group Awareness
back to projects
project summary
The goal of this project is to enhance awareness between members of a tightly-knit, co-located group by putting relevant information in the work environment. Many lab and office spaces have whiteboards and projection displays in shared space that are idle when not being used for presentations or meetings. This project attempts to take advantage of these resources as a medium for applications that foster collaboration and awareness. Having reminders such as "Can anyone read and comment on my UIST paper submission?" persistent in the environment can augment communication already provided via group emails by preventing group members from forgetting to attend to matters. This type of reminder, combinedh the medium of a smart board or other interactive display can also be used to encourage asynchronous brainstorming, eg "Help me think of names for my new project!" Additionally, we are looking at ways to use these spaces to provide quick-glance visual but abstract representations of group members' activities and interests.
